The Best TIme for Family Photos on Oahu, Hawaii

Sunset Session on O’ahu

Family vacation is such a good time for family photos. Why?

1️⃣ I don’t know about you, but the older I have gotten, the harder it is to find a time that works for all of my family to get together. So, if you already have a vacation that works for everyone, why not take advantage of everyone being in one place at the same time and get some family photos!

2️⃣ You get to have unique, beautiful scenery in your photos. Hawaii is gorgeous! What can I say! If you are visiting, the scenery here is most likely different from where you live and gives a stunning background in each photo.

3️⃣ Your photos are the perfect souvenir from your trip. You can buy t-shirts and key chains, but there really isn’t anything more special than making memories with your family. Every time you look back at them, you’ll get to relive the memories 💕

Okay… so we have established it's a good idea to get your photos done on your vacation, but when is the best time?

🌞 The prime time for photos is the first hour after sunrise and the hour before sunset. You have probably heard of the term “golden hour” and that is exactly what those times provide.

🌞 Sunrise is such a good option for traveling families. If you are coming from the East Coast, or even the West Coast, the time change is just enough to make it a bit easier to wake up early for sunrise. Most of the time, you are already up early while your body is adjusting. Sunrise also has pastel skies, emptier beaches, and cooler temperatures.

🌞 Sunset is great for anyone! It is easier for most families and couples to get to and really brings the golden light. Beaches can be busier, but the views are always worth it.

🌞 No matter what time of day you choose, the sooner you get your photos taken on your vacation the better. First, I suggest doing this to prevent photos with lots of tan lines and sunburn. Second, if there is a need to reschedule for any reason, like weather, planning to do your photos early on gives us more wiggle room if we need to reschedule.

So, when you're planning your next family trip to Oahu, remember that your vacation can be a great chance to get some amazing family photos. Whether you go for the soft colors of a sunrise shoot or the warm light of a sunset session, pictures can be a special reminder of your time together, long after the trip is over. If you are looking for a photographer on Oahu to capture your memories, I would LOVE to chat with you. You can email me at info@meganjohnsonphoto.com or head to the “Contact” page on my website.

Aloha always,
